Hesse, Germany, Deaths, 1851-1955 - Ancestry.com |
This Hesse Germany death record came up as a "shakey leaf hint". On Ancestry.com. The box to the right is the information that Ancestry gives me that comes from this record. All well and good but...
Is this the correct Johann Georg Feick? To this date I have 7 Johann George Feicks in my family tree (and no doubt my snooping into family history will find more) yet only one is my husbands direct ancestor. There is also much more info on the original record than what Ancestry has translated for me but (of course) in German. There also appears to be a discrepancy in the date of death. I spend a bit of time on each record and with the help of a good German genealogy dictionary, tutorials on old German penmanship and helpful facebook German genealogy folks, a lot of information about an ancestor can be found on a German vital record.
• Schreinermeister (master cabinetmaker) Johann Friedrich Feick, who lives in Groß-Bieberau, reported that his father
• Johann Georg died in Groß-Bieberau on February 23, 1917 (Ancestry read the date as the 22nd but the record clearly says the 23rd)
• Johann Georg died in Groß-Bieberau on February 23, 1917 (Ancestry read the date as the 22nd but the record clearly says the 23rd)
• He was 80 years old
• His occupation is listed as Auszügler - this is a retired person who has handed over his estate to a son or son in law or perhaps sold to a third party while retaining the right to live on the property and have some contracted advantage of it until his death. Earlier records state he is a cabinetmaker so I can safely assume that he no longer works due to age or illness and has turned over the family business to his son or sons as all three of his sons are also cabinetmakers.
• He is of the Evangelische (Lutheran) religion
• He was born in Groß-Bieberau
• He resided in Groß-Bieberau with his wife Anne Elisabethe Schubkegel who still now resides in Groß-Bieberau
• His parents were Johannes Feick and Elisabete Barbare Schwörer who were also of Groß-Bieberau
• his son Johann Friedrich's signature attests to the above facts
